A Week in the Life

However, English lessons outside of the classroom are a very marketable trade in Lugo, so my FP-sponsored conversation classes are an excellent (free) opportunity for members of the FP community to work on their English skills with a native speaker. Personally, this class is my favorite, because it’s with the students who are the most motivated and eager to learn English. This week, we spent the time discussing el medio ambiente (the environment) and conversation techniques useful for passing the Trinity Exams (English-testing exams widely known throughout Europe for judging your language capabilities).

On Wednesdays, I teach Marketing and Sales—my most rowdy classes, because the class size is three times that of the others. I announced my newest project I’ve started in Lugo to these groups: an English podcast project, all about Galician culture. As an avid podcast fan myself, I’ve noticed that there’s a lack of Galician podcast content on the internet. So, as a way for students to further their English skills, I’m starting Lugo’s first podcast. I’ll keep you all updated on its progress!

Finally, Thursdays, I work with the Renewable Energies group—I had only 3 students in class this week! The majority of the class has left to work for a local business in what they call their prácticas (apprenticeship). Their English level is the most basic of all the groups I teach, so it is a lot of work to get them to string full, present-tense sentences together. But when they do, it feels like a massive achievement.

Fridays are my day off! I spent this one cleaning my flat. Cleaning included a nice adventure to the grocery store in search of new sponges, esponjas.
