This week I traveled to the country's capital, Bogotá, to the coast city of Santa Marta and to a local volcanic crater lake, and the weather was different in each city. In general, Colombia has two seasons instead of four, the dry season and the rainy season. We are currently in the rainy season, so it rained a lot. Some friends from New York visited me, and we traveled to Caribbean beach city of Santa Marta, where it was warm and sunny. Yesterday, it was a holiday, and I hosted an event at the lagoon La Cocha, which was fantastic and sunny, but quite windy as well.
Hiking through Tayrona Park in Santa Marta was beautiful, where we saw the local flora and faunta of this tropical rainforest. On the beach we saw many white ghost crabs and a variety of lizards, butterflies and big fire ants. In La Cocha, we saw patos andinos (Andean ducks) and ate fresh trout, a specialty of this area. A local dog in the area also served as a guide as we walked through a forest to a natural waterfall.
