This week, I went for a hike in the rainforest with my friend Anselm. It was a very long and steep walk to get to the top of the mountain, and we were tired by the time we got to the top, but there was a nice view waiting for us. On the way down, we lost the trail we were following and had to try to find our way back down through the jungle in the dark. It was a good thing I brought a flashlight and a machete to cut through all the vines and branches!
This week, I am reading Los Rios Profundos, a book by a famous Peruvian author named Jose Maria Arguedas. It tells the story of a young boy growing up in Perú in the early 1900s, and it is very good.
I hiked up a mountain, which was plenty of exercise!
I made some good progress with my research in the lab this week. Right now, I am studying the different microorganisms that grow on the cacao trees, which involves lots of looking under the microscope. It is very interesting to see all of the different shapes and colors that the different species of microorganisms have!
