Xime's Life as a Costa Rican Kid

What chores do you have at home?:

"I have to tidy up my room, make my bed and after dinner, I dry the dishes", Xime said. She is an only child so her house doesn't get too messy. 

What jobs do your parents have?:

"My mom is an English teacher and a Grupo de Kansas study abroad director. My dad is an English teacher and an artist."

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

"I have to be to school at 7:00 AM, and I go home at 2:00 PM", Xime told me. 

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Xime laughed when I asked her if she was allowed to go to school by herself. "It's too far and it's kind of dangerous," she said. "It takes us 20 minutes to drive to school." For her friend Luna, it takes an hour and a half!

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Xime waits to eat lunch until she gets home from school. Her friend Luna eats in a cafeteria, and sometimes outside. They love every type of pasta or pizza.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

In school, Xime speaks English and Spanish, and is learning French. Luna is learning German. 

They greet each other by saying "Hola" and giving a little hug and air kiss on the left cheek. 

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Isabela, Camila, Juan, Jose, Pablo and Maria are common names. A lot of people use their first and middle name, like "Maria Isabela."
