At the farm where we stayed, Navdanya, I saw a field of hundreds of rice varieties being conserved for Navdanya’s seed bank. Navdanya's seed bank keeps these seeds to preserve them for the future or distribute them to local farmers to use on their farms.
We had a lecture about how Navdanya encourages farmers to adopt farming methods that don’t rely on chemical fertilizers because these fertilizers can harm pollinators, like bees, and reduce soil fertility over time, which makes it harder to grow crops or other types of plants. The lecturer taught us how Navdanya makes organic insect repellent by crushing up different plant leaves from the farm.
