My Journey with Jamón

Introduction:

Spain is a fascinating country in terms of its foods. Every city has different dishes! During my time in Madrid, I had access to a myriad of food. When I visited towns like Toledo, Valencia, Avila, and Salamanca, I discovered dishes more specific to the region.

What food did I try?:

I tried a bunch of new foods that are specific to Spain, such as jamón, which is very different from our version of ham. I also tried paella, snails, tortilla de patatas, patatas bravas, and churros con chocolate. However, because Madrid is such a big city, I was able to enjoy a huge variety of foods, just like in NYC. I had lomo saltado which is a Peruvian dish; bandeja paisa, which is Colombian; and Mexican tacos at a super popular one euro taco spot!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I really liked most of the foods I tried, but my favorites were tortillas de patatas and patatas bravas. As I mentioned before, tortillas de patatas are potato omelettes and patatas bravas are potato slices with hot sauce. So much potato! I was extremely excited to try paella because it is so deeply loved and I had the opportunity to have paella in Valencia, which is where the dish originates from.  Each time I had it, though, I just wasn't too big of a fan.
