During the week, I do not frequently travel as I am preoccupied with teaching. However, this weekend, visiting Ho Chi Minh City on my way to Da Nang/ Hoi An and back, I traveled a total of 2,172 kilometers or 1,350 miles.
Over the course of the two and a half months in Vietnam, I have not yet traveled outside Vietnam. I have done a fair amount of traveling throughout the country. So far, I have visited Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city, which are located in the far north and south of Vietnam. Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh, both with several hours of Hanoi, and most recently traveled to Da Nang and Hoi An which reside in the central portion of the country.
On a traditional week, my primary mode of transportation is on a motorbike. Motorbikes are how people in Vietnam get around. Cars are still a common sight, but significantly less than in America and still normally only in major cities. I have used multiple kinds of travel. I first took a bus from Tay Ninh to Ho Chi Minh City, and then had a plane ride from Ho Chi Minh to Da Nang. While in Da Nang, I primarily traveled using grab cars and bikes. Grab car is the Southeast Asian version of Uber or Lyft. I used the same method of travel to return to my province.
