The regional language of Galicia is Galician (or Galego as it is called here). Although it is different than Spanish (also known as Español), another language that is spoken in parts of Spain and Central and South America, many people know how to speak both Galician and Spanish. The Galician language is somewhat similar to Spanish. However, it is also similar to Portuguese, which is the language spoken in Portugal, a country that borders Spain. In school, kids have to take classes to learn Galician, Spanish and English, and they can also choose if they want to learn another language, like Portugese, French or German.
