My friend and I got caught in a storm while visiting Hertzliya. We were at a hotel picking up a package and wanted to find the closest restaurant to us. Thankfully there was a restaurant called Benedict only a two minute walk away. We shared a great, traditional, Israeli breakfast (for dinner) there.
Benedict is a very well known restaurant here in Israel, especially with tourists. This restaurant has different locations, including one in Tel Aviv, and it is open 24/7. Breakfast is served here all day long, and it even has pancakes, which is a rarity in Israel! Sarah and I decided to share the classic Israeli dish called shakshouka. Shakshouka is a dish with poached eggs in a red tomato sauce.
At first I was a little nervous to try the shakshouka. I am a bit of a picky eater and am very particular about my eggs, usually only eating egg whites. However, this dish was absolutely incredible! It had just the correct amount of flavors and spice and was just the thing to warm Sarah and me up after we were caught in the incredible storm. The dish came with a basket of various breads and sauces, including nutella. We also had a side of fries. It was a feast!
On the first day of every month, my friend Shari tries a new shakshouka recipe in her house, aiming to perfect it! My roommates and I want to give it a go one of these days!
