Colorful Clothes are Widespread in India!

It varies between different regions of India because each part of the country developed its own designs and styles of clothing.

The difference in the type of clothing between older generations and younger generations is a result of the large influence of Western (Europe and American) culture on India in recent years. Many older people typically wear traditional clothing because that’s what they grew up wearing. India wasn’t as influenced by other countries at that time. Now, though, India has much interaction with European and American companies, movies, etc. This influence has led to people adopting styles of dress that incorporate Western clothing, for example, a kurti with jeans.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

As I mentioned, traditional clothing is looser and covers a lot of skin in response to the hot temperatures and bright sunlight in India. The type of clothing varies by age and region. Places with more contact with Western countries, large cities like Bengaluru for example, tend to have more Western-styles of dressing as well. One reason for this is that men who work for international companies in India are often required to wear Western clothing. Women can wear traditional or Western styles usually, which can explain why many women wear traditional clothing more often than men. In rural areas, on the other hand, most people (regardless of age) tend to wear more traditional clothing.
