Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

The national language here is Portuguese. Portuguese is not a very popular language around the world, but it is very similar to many other languages found in Europe. For example, hello in Portuguese is "olá" which is pronounced the same as "hola" in Spanish. However, thank you in Portuguese is "obrigado," which is far from "gracias" in Spanish.

What type of money is used here?:

Like many European countries, Portugal uses euros as its currency. I love traveling to countries with the same currency as Spain, so I don't have to go to an ATM when I arrive.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water here costs one euro, which is equal to one dollar and fourteen cents in the United States. Not too shabby!

What was the best meal this week?:

While in Sintra, I ate really well! My favorite dish reminded me of "country fried steak" from back home. Do they have that where you live? The plate consisted of fried pork, potato strips, and a yummy aioli garlic dipping sauce. The crispiness of the pork paired with the intense flavor of aioli made for a delicious combination!

What music did I listen to this week?:

My bus driver was oddly obsessed with throwback 1970's American hits, sothe entire bus ride from Spain to Portugal was filled with "Staying Alive," "Dancing Queen," and tons of other great songs.
