It is summer here in Paraguay! This past week has been very, very hot. While normally Paraguayan summers are quite humid, it has actually been quite dry. This week the temperatures have been 100-105 every day, with the "feel" reaching up to 115. With the intense heat and little rain, wildfires have been popping up in the north of the country (far from my house). While it seems like it could not get any hotter, February is typically the hottest month here in Paraguay. I am staying cool by swimming, enjoying my hammock in the shade and praying for rain!
This week I have seen many cows, oxen, donkeys and dogs, as all are abundant here and roam freely in town. This week I have also seen a few piranhas that fishermen have caught by the river. I have also seen howler monkeys! There is a pair of howler monkeys with a baby that used to live in my back yard, but they now live down the street. I still see them about once a week and can hear them from my porch every morning!
