Starting something new can be a scary thing to think about sometimes: Changing schools, making friends, starting college and living away from home for the first time. All of these things come with their own challenges, but they also provide us with a lot of reasons to be excited. In my life, I have found that once I get over my initial nervousness, new experiences become incredibly rewarding. New experiences motivate me to push myself even further out of my comfort zone in the future.
When I first got to Vietnam, I didn’t know anyone here. I was nervous, unsure, excited and inspired, all at the same time. I was in a place where I had a chance to meet so many new people and try all kinds of different things. Walking into my house on my first day in Can Tho was a strange experience. I have moved many times in my life, so I was not nervous to live in a new space. It definitely felt like a bigger deal to be moving to a different country. Moving to Los Angeles was one thing, but I knew that living in Vietnam for the next year would be a far more challenging experience, for better or for worse.
When I was unpacking all of my belongings on my first morning in Vietnam, I was filled with a sense of self-assurance that I could establish a new life for myself in this foreign land.
