As I mentioned, many Russians have every route of the Metro memorized, and it is very common to see young children riding the Metro themselves to and from school. People do not drive cars. Most people do not even own one, so the Metro and buses are the only way to travel from one side of the city to another. They keep people connected and ensure that Moscow is a relatively safe and enjoyable place to live in.
