One of my favorite things to do is visit the beach! There is nothing better than a salty sea breeze and the sound of waves crashing onto land. I have been surprised by how often I've been able to visit Ireland's coastline. While at the beach, I spend my time surfing and hiking along the coast. Although the scenery changes at every beach, I've noticed a common theme: shells! I started seeing a similar type of shell at each beach I visited, so I decided to do some reserach on this animal, which I discovered is called a "limpet".
Limpets are shaped like a cone. They have a circular bottom that tapers into a point towards the top of their shell. When they attach themselves to rocks, it is only possible to see their shell. However, if you were to pick them up, you would see their slimy yellow underbellies!
I was surprised by how many limpets could be found in a single beach or even on a single rock. They seem to be an animal found at every beach I've visited in Ireland. I also found it beautiful how each individual limpet has its own unique pattern. Every shell looked different than the others!
