In Western Austria there is a very tall mountain range called the Alps. The Alps are very rocky but also have areas with meadows, woods and lakes or rivers. This makes the Alps a very good place for lots of different plants and animals to live. People and animals live together in the Alps. Many people have farms with mountain farm animals. For this Field Note, I vistited an example of an Austrian mountain farm and saw many different animals.
The animal I learned the most about about was the Tauernsheck goat. This type of goat is either black or brown. It has big white spots on its sides. A Tauernsheck goat always has a white line on its face. Both male and female Tauernsheck goats have horns. An adult goat weighs between 100-160 pounds.
I felt happy when I saw the Tauernsheck goat! They are very cute and pretty. The big horns are a little scary, but the goats I met were very friendly. One goat walked over to the gate and let me pet her!
This type of goat lives in the Alps. Farmers own Taurensheck goats because they make delicious milk. There aren't any wild Tauernsheck goats because they all live on farms in the Alps.
