Nature News

In this park, I saw many amazing things such as a big, green pond with ducks, huge plants that looked like aloe plants with writing on them, plants that looked like cacti, and -- most interesting of all -- a huge tree with a mass of roots visible above the ground!

Other Nature News from this week:

During my walking tour in Lisbon, Portugal, I was told a devastating story about what Mother Nature did to this city on November 1st,  1755, All Saint’s Day.  On that day 236 years ago, there was an earthquake magnitude 9 (the strongest possible) that lasted nine minutes but which killed many people. The Christian church collapsed and killed all the worshipers inside. At home, people had left lit candles which were tipped over in the quake, resulting in a huge fire that lasted for about three days. The people went running to the beach to escape the fire and earthquake only to be killed by the tsunami that came next. The guide quoted experts as saying that this big of an earthquake happens about every 350 years.
