The official language in Portugal is Portuguese. I entered the country not knowing any Portuguese, but I now know how to say Obrigado (thank you), and some other basic words. I also realized that Portuguese is very similar to the Spanish language. So, I understood when people spoke to me. I just couldn’t respond back in Portuguese. I would respond in Spanish and they would understand most of it. It is interesting that people who speak different languages can somewhat understand each other.
In Portugal, the currency is also the euro, just like in Spain, so, I did not have to convert any money. During my trip, I spent about 150€, for my hostel, food, transportation in the cities and for buying souvenirs.
I was surprised to find out that a bottle of water is not as expensive in Portugal as it is in Spain. Most things such as a can of soda, food, bread or a bottle of water were about the same price as in Granada, Spain or even cheaper.
