Empanadas

Introduction:

Empanadas are a simple, filling, tasty food option in Buenos Aires. I tried empanadas on my first day in the city, and they are a cheap option when you need a quick meal on the go.

What food did I try?:

Empanadas are a simple, filling, tasty food option in Buenos Aires. There are many options for filling such as shredded beef and cheese, jamon y queso (ham and cheese), spinach and cheese and so many other options!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I felt content when I ate empanadas for the first time. They are super tasty and full of flavor! Especially since I got a fresh batch, they were warm, so delicious and flavorful! Now, I am always ready to go on an empanada run!

How is the food prepared?:

Empanadas are usually made in-house, as people take pride in the process of making their empanadas. Instead of using corn or maize-based dough (which is very common in Latin and Central America), Argentines use flour-based dough for empanadas. They roll out the dough, cutting out circles. From there, they add the filling to the empanada, fold the dough over it (making a half-moon shape) and press down the edges to seal each empanada. Most places have a specific way of sealing the empanada, which you can see in my photos, which gives the iconic look to the Argentinian empanada.
