Hi, everybody! My name is Sasha Rivers and I can't wait to get a chance to share my Lesotho adventure with you. You are all very lucky to have an awesome teacher like Mrs. Barnard, and I am so excited to meet all of you on Zoom in a few weeks!
Just like all of you, I am from Cape Cod. I lived in Chatham from the time I was born until I left for college in 2019. I lived with my mom, dad and little brother Jonah. My family is Jewish, so while growing up I attended Cape Cod Synagogue in Hyannis for all our holy days. I went to Chatham Elementary, and then St. Francis in Hyannis for middle school and Cape Cod Academy for high school. For college, I went to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. That was my first time living so far from the ocean. It was strange and hard for me not to see the water every day, and I still feel that way sometimes living in Lesotho. Right now, if I wanted to get to the nearest beach, I would have to travel for over 15 hours and go into South Africa, an entirely different country! Lesotho is landlocked, meaning no part of this country touches any oceans. Growing up, I loved going to the beach and surfing and swimming and just sitting around. When I was your age, in second grade, was the first year that we had great white sharks come to the Cape!
