I worked for an organization that built solar panels in many parts of the country, and my job was to design their website and translate it into Arabic, because lots of people in Israel speak Arabic, Hebrew and English. I loved living in another country so much because it was so wonderful to experience different languages and foods and places.
For many years, I considered joining the Peace Corps, because some of my family members and friends' families had volunteered in the Peace Corps, so I had known about it for a long time. One of the main reasons I wanted to join the Peace Corps was to live in a new place and be a part of a culture that was completely different from my own. A big part of that is learning a new language, of course. Another huge reason I wanted to join the Peace Corps was to have the opportunity to help people, and the main goal of the Peace Corps is to send American volunteers into countries that request extra workers. A lot of Peace Corps volunteers are teachers, like me, but others work in health clinics or youth centers around the world. When I was a senior in college, I knew it was time to start thinking about what I wanted to do after I graduated, so I applied for the Peace Corps! Luckily, I was accepted, and they told me I was going to be an elementary school teacher in a tiny country called Lesotho! I had never heard of it before, but I was excited for a new adventure.
Over a year later, I feel like I have lived here my entire life. I work at a school that has kindergarten through grade seven. I teach English lessons to grades three through seven, and grade four is my homeroom, so I also teach them math and life skills. I go to school Monday through Friday, just like you do.
