Portuguese is the main language spoken here. 

What type of money is used here?:

Throughout Brazil, the main form of currency is called the Real (rre·au). This is the only form of money you can use here so you definitely need to exchange foreign money here. 

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs 50 cents.

What was the best meal this week?:

My best meal this week was crab soup, made from crabs that live in the mangroves! I also had some buffalo meat with locally made buffalo cheese on top. It is a staple dish of the island. 

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listened to a lot of Bossa Nova, a music created in Brazil in the 1960s that's distinctly Brazilian. 

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I visited a beach over the weekend which is called Praia Barro Velha (Old Neighborhood Beach).

What did I read this week?:

I have been reading about the socioeconomics of local cheese farms in Marajó. 

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I did not play any games, but I watched many games of soccer. There are only three paved roads in town.
