My Trip to the Jardim Botanical Garden

Introduction:

I decided to check out the botanical garden here in Rio because I had some free time and wanted to spend some time in nature. One cool thing about Rio is that government funded organizations offer discounts for a variety of people like students, seniors, young people and teenagers. This meant I was able to get into the garden for around $2 using my local student ID.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The toco toucan is a medium sized bird with a big, distinct orange beak. It has blue lining around its eyes and has a white midsection and throat that contrasts with its black body.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

It was cool seeing an animal I have only seen on TV or on the Froot Loops cereal box. It felt like an unreal experience. I feel so privileged to be able to see something like this, because not many people from my community ever get to see a toucan if it is not at a zoo. Yet, here I am watching this bird fly around in its home--now that's special.

Where does it live?:

The toco toucan lives in various areas accross South America and is primarily found in tropical climates. Here in Brazil they can be found in the Amazon rainforest, but they are generally not seen in metropolitan city areas.
