The weather in Monte Plata is usually sunny with afternoon rainstorms. The climate is hot and humid, but it's cooler at night and in the early morning. The hottest time of day is around 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. when the temperature gets up into the 90s! We're entering the dry season, so rain isn't as common, but we've still had two downpours this week.
This week, I saw a Hispaniolan Woodpecker, a beautiful bird with a bright red stripe on its head and black and gold feathers. I also saw a cacata (also known as the Hispaniolan Giant Tarantula) on my porch but I chased it away with a broom. Because I live in the countryside, I also see cows, horses, roosters, hens, pigs, cats and dogs every day.
