I attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, where I joined a Christian campus club known as Chi Alpha. I met my closest friends. We were always doing homework together, attending church, eating out, and going to our favorite coffee shop. This time of my life is where I really had to learn to love others even if it was outside of my comfort zone. It turned out, that the more I pursued my faith, the more I valued the opportunities to share the love with others wherever I went.
In my club, we would always hear testimonials about people who went to other countries to share their faith with others, but the thing that I always took note of was their perspective on the connections they made. It was all about showing you care about someone, about listening to another person as they spoke, cooking up dinner, or simply watching a movie with them, which led to greater opportunities in friendship. It was interesting because it showed the idea that no one is perfect and a good friendship takes effort. People of all faiths can agree that our connections with people are important and every soul deserves a bit of kindness despite their background. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t be who I am today without the kindness and patience my friend showed to me throughout the times of our relationship.
Right before my eyes, many people have crossed my path and we have lived life together. It influenced my writing for film because I wanted to produce content showing healthy relationships between friends. I always felt the need to record, making video diaries of our yearly camping trip and coffee shop dates. Then of course, sending them to the group chat and my whole family!
