Malaysia is the melting pot of Asia, and the food reflects it. There are opportunities for amazing Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indian food, and many more.
I've eaten a lot of rice with curries (curry consists of a spicy sauce with meat and vegetables), satay (meat grilled and served on a wooden stick like a kebab) and nasi lemak (the national dish of Malaysia, rice cooked in coconut milk with vegetables and meat). I've also had delicious watermelon juice - so refreshing!
First of all, the food here is SPICY. It is also usually very fresh, as I've been eating at street markets where they cook the food right in front of you. Some of the food is new to me, so I've felt apprehensive. However, it is delicious and a very important part of the culture, so I've been very pleased that I'm able to try it all.
Some food is prepared in a large wok bowl, that is used to mix all of the noodles, vegetables, meats and sauces altogether. Some food is prepared on an open grill such as for the satays. The watermelon juice that I drank yesterday was made by a man slicing a circle into the watermelon, blending the inside and putting a straw in the center hole. So fresh!
