Transportation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Introduction:

Malaysia is home to a variety of transportation methods, and people commonly rely on public transportation to move throughout cities and from state to state.

How do people get around?:

First, people drive cars to get into Kuala Lumpur from the surrounding suburbs and states. There is also a fast, clean, affordable and reliable subway system called the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT). This subway system stretches to the neighborhoods surrounding Kuala Lumpur. There is also an efficient train from Kuala Lumpur airport to the city center. The final two main modes of transportation are motorcycles (much more common here than in the U.S.) and walking. People walk through the skyway system because it's air-conditioned and avoids traffic on the streets.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I've loved the subway, and I walk in the skyways every day. I feel safe, and I feel like a local :)

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Motorcycles are connected with the culture, as people typically use them to get to work, school and shopping in the city. The city is built for cars and motorcycles, but the skyways encourage walking.
