The official language is Spanish. The Spanish here is a little different though because they pronounce some words differently and use a lot of slang. For example, to say bus here, the word is not autobus like in the rest of Spain, but rather guagua! Many people here also speak English because a lot of visitors from around the world come to vacation here.
The money here is called the euro which they use in all of Europe. It is nice because you don't have to worry about changing your money when you travel to most other European countries. The euro is worth a little more than the U.S. dollar right now.
In the Canary Islands, it is safe to drink water from the sink, but it has a weird taste so everyone buys bottled water. You can buy huge bottles of water with eight liters of water! A regular bottle of water costs about 40 euro cents, which is less than 50 U.S. cents!
The best meal that I had this week was at a fishing village next to Santa Cruz. The beach near Santa Cruz is called Las Teresitas. Next to the beach is a village called San Andres. I went to a restaurant there with some friends for lunch. An interesting fun fact: in Spain, lunch is the biggest meal of the day and the one for which you would normally go out to eat, not dinner!
