Our News

What music did I listen to this week?:

I always listen to Youssou N'Dour, the most famous musician in Senegal. But this week specifically, I listened to some of Drake's old stuff, Post Malone's new stuff, Volbeat and Of Montreal.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Working out at the beach is the most fun. I get to meet a lot of wrestlers for my work. Also, using tires, chunks of concrete and chin-up bars as my only workout equipment is pretty cool. After sitting at a computer for hours or commuting in the heat and crowds, being at the beach is the best.

What did I read this week?:

Right now for my research I am focusing on how people transmit information through physical means. This is called "body pedagogics." So I read a lot of scientific articles about how people manufacture knowledge and pass it on through bodily connection. One way to think of it is how we are physically changed by the information we absorb and how we change that information by absorbing it. I read a book about how dance in Senegal is used to pass on information and another book about the physical aspects of practicing Islam. I also finished the Locke and Key graphic novel series (I love comic books!) and read some British detective stories.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

Other than working out on the beach, I joined in some informal soccer games in the neighborhood.

Other news from this week:

In addition to my work interviewing, translating and researching, I prepared a paper for a workshop in the United States that I will present in a few weeks--Whew!
