This week I had a paper due for an upcoming workshop in the U.S., so I didn't travel much. Just far enough to visit friends in other parts of the city. However, because of the rain and traffic, it can take an hour or two just to travel 3-4 miles!
I have only gone on a couple of day trips outside of Dakar since most of my work is focused here. One trip was to Fadiouth, a small island covered in a bed of shells! I also hope to travel to Casamance in the south of Senegal and to The Gambia soon.
This week I walked and rode on the back of motorbike. I also took taxis, buses, a car rapide (a local brightly colored taxi) and the kalandoo (a cheap private taxi for short distances).
I went to a naming ceremony for a friend's baby.
It is difficult to travel during nawet (the rainy season) because the roads flood quickly.
