Our News

What music did I listen to this week?:

Since I've started learning Greek, I've been listening to educational songs aimed at elementary school children. I'm sure many of you can remember similar songs from your own early education—songs that teach the days of the week, colors, emotions and other basic concepts. As silly as it might sound for a grown adult to listen to these, it's been quite helpful in learning new vocabulary for these ideas since I am essentially an elementary student of Greek!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

My hike on Mt. Olympus was incredible! Coming from West Virginia, it was nice for me to get out of the city and into the mountains, which felt much more like home.

What did I read this week?:

Right now, I'm reading The Thirteenth Labor of Hercules: Inside the Greek Crisis by Yannis Palaiologos. The book describes the financial crisis of 2009 in Greece and the ways the country has taken steps to address it, something the author describes as a "Herculean task" (see what he did there?). It's been fascinating to learn more about contemporary Greek society through his writing.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

Every Tuesday, I lead an after-school speech and debate club for middle schoolers, and we play various games aimed at getting them more comfortable and confident with public speaking.
