Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

Getting to and from Mt. Olympus took me over 320 miles in total. I mostly traveled this distance by train, which gave me some amazing views of the Greek countryside. This was a refreshing sight after having lived in a bustling metropolis like Athens for a few months now!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

So far, I have traveled over 8,500 miles since getting here in August. I've traveled within Greece and outside of it, journeying to Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic!

How did I get around this week?:

In addition to the train out of Athens, getting around in the city is a convenient process because of its extensive subway system. There are three separate lines crossing the city, so it’s very easy (and affordable!) to get to and from just about anywhere in Athens.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I went was small village at the foot of Mt. Olympus. I stopped there at a bakery for a snack. Although I was a bit unsure of myself, I tried to order a coffee in Greek. The owner helpfully corrected a mistake I made and gave me a free cookie as a gift for learning Greek! It was a really nice experience—and the coffee and the cookie were excellent!
