Ahalan! Hello! My name is (Robert) Eastman Johnson and I am a 29-year-old from Georgetown, Kentucky. Now I am living, studying and doing research in Morocco!
I first caught the travel bug when I was accepted into the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning to study urban planning and design. I used that opportunity to work around the States to gain experience, sometimes for free. When the time came to decide about going to graduate school, I knew I wanted to do something bigger, like international development.
Coincidentally, the School of Planning offered a joint program with the United States Peace Corps. I applied and was selected to be a youth development volunteer in Morocco for 27 months! During my service, I taught English in a youth center, did environmental projects and developed my Master's thesis. When I returned to classes in 2016, I worked towards completing my degree and thesis. While writing, I realized I needed data to support my project in Morocco. So, I applied for and received a language award and research grant through the U.S. Student Fulbright Program! I also established my own non-profit organization called Resilient Communities.
I can't wait to share this incredible country and its people with you! Let's go!
