Morocco has made huge strides in establishing "green" initiatives, programs and policies since 2002. The United Nations ranks them as 8th in the world for progressive policy, but enforcement is lacking. Recently, more organizations are focusing on environmental development and education as the programs and initiatives are slowly beginning to be noticed and taken advantage of. But there is still huge potential in this field. The projects that I have been developing are looking to take advantage of this timing of opportunity and establish sustainable infrastructure as a normal service in these growing communities since they are still like a blank canvas.
Education on all levels is very poor and not highly invested in by the Ministry of Education. There is of course access to institutions in cities and access to primary and high schools is scattered in smaller communities, making them have to commute. But in many villages that have no access to water or paved roads, kids walk sometimes three to eight miles to go to school if they are ambitious enough. The positive side is that many families are beginning to see the importance of education for their children, encouraging them to go to school. On the university level, accountability is terrible.
