Eat a German Pizza with Me!

Introduction:

One of my favorite things about living in a different country is getting to try all kinds of new foods! You've already heard about the sweet, white sausages and the warm, orange pumpkin soup. Now, I want to introduce you to another popular food in Germany -- the German pizza!

What food did I try?:

This week, I tried flammkuchen (pronounced flahhm-kook-in), Flammkuchen is often called "German pizza" because that's exactly what it looks like! It doesn't taste exactly like American pizza though. While American pizza usually has tomato sauce and cheese, flammkuchen doesn't have either of those things! Instead of tomato sauce, it's covered with sour cream, and it's usually topped with fresh fruits and vegetables.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I was really surprised by how many different kinds of flammkuchen we could make! Some of them had goat cheese and walnuts, some of them had spinach and cherry tomatoes, and some of them had pears and honey. I didn't know that sour cream could taste so good with so many things! I was also surprised that some of the flammkuchen tasted sweet (especially the ones topped with fruit like peaches or pears), because I had never imagined a sweet pizza before. Those were my favorite ones!
