Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

There are about 45 tribes in Uganda. Every tribe has their own language. The most common one is Luganda and is spoken by the Buganda tribe (found in the capital city, Kampala). However, I am in Mbarara, which is about 267km (164 miles) from Kampala. The people here are of the Ankole tribe and speak Nyankole. Despite the many languages spoken throughout the country, English is the official language since Uganda was colonized by the British.

What type of money is used here?:

The currency used in Uganda is the Ugandan shilling. One dollar is equivalent to 3,809 Ugandan shillings. This means that the U.S. dollar has a lot more value than the Ugandan shilling.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A 500ml bottle of water costs 500 shillings. This is equivalent to $0.13 (13 cents). That's pretty cheap, huh?

What was the best meal this week?:

I’ve had many meals since I got to Uganda but the best I had this week is Chapatti with beans and meat. It was delicious, and I really enjoyed it. I visited a family in Kampala and they made this local meal for me.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listened to songs from American based musicians like Lecrae, Toby Mac, Steven Curtis Chapman, Mandisa and many more.
