It was really interesting, and it made me very thankful for my desire to learn a new language. It is not always easy, and it can be embarrassing if you make a mistake, but it makes you feel at home faster.
Art is always a way to engage in a community. While looking at street art and watching Chilean movies, you can get a new understanding of the people’s needs or problems.
Perhaps the most important way in which I have come to feel at home here is through my living situation: I am living with a Chilean woman close to my age. We have become fast friends and I have learned a lot about community by just listening to her tell me stories about her country and life. In a city, it feels like things are always changing and at times, it is hard to know where to invest your time. For me, I have to stay positive and open my mind to new experiences while staying safe and remaining true to myself.
