It is important to work hard to protect this diversity. The Chilean people have to protect their land and culture. I identified two main community problems, different from one another, but central to the needs of modern-day Chileans.
One community problem is the loss of water. Chile is one of the largest producers of avocados, but the massive avocado production means that some communities are losing access to water. All the avocado farms are using the water and causing a drought, as a result. A drought is a shortage in the water supply in an area.
A second community need is for the Haitian community to be allowed to assimilate like any other immigrant population
I learned about the community’s need to protect their water. I also learned that many Haitian immigrants came to Chile after the earthquake in 2010. They have trouble becoming part of the Chilean culture because they speak a different language and they look different from most of the people, here. It becomes difficult to make money and truly begin to live somewhere new if people are judgmental and treat you badly.
