Hello! My name is Emma and I am from Springfield, Missouri. I am 22 years old and am originally from Pennsylvania, but now I study Spanish and global studies/affairs at Missouri State University. My journey has taken me to Santiago, Chile where I am doing some research at the University of Chile. Ever since I was young, I loved art and creating art, but I also love to write. The people in Chile are making really beautiful things: street art, graffiti and murals. They create art to call for political change—it is a way of protest. For me, this is really amazing and beautiful. I am inspired to learn more about their motivation and how they shape their world. I am completing my undergraduate thesis by spending time with some of the muralists, political activists, and with the artwork itself. I am writing about what I find, and hopefully, it will expand into a larger project.
