The environment in Galicia can be summarized by three words: green, blue and rain! It rains here more than anywhere else in Spain - about 40 inches per year in the entire region and up to 79 inches in some places along the west coast. This rain is what causes Galicia to be so green with its pines, eucalyptus trees, and toxo bushes. The green contrasts beautifully with the blue ocean or the sky on a sunny day. The temperature is, in general, fairly mild, and though Galicia is cooler than much of the rest of Spain, this region really doesn't get too cold in the winter or too hot in the summer.
What makes this environment different to me is its harshness in comparison to the rest of Spain. The rain really makes people here appreciate the nice days, but the rain doesn't stop the locals from doing what they want to do. I also love the contrast between the sandy beaches of Galicia and the rocky cliffs that are usually on either side of the white sand and bordering the rough, cold waters. Galicia is truly the most beautiful place I have ever been.
