Paraguay is home to 11 ecoregions, each home to rich biodiversity and many endemic (or native) species. Each of Paraguay's eco regions is home to an extremely different climate. From the arid and sparsely inhabited Chaco, to the Pantanal, the biggest tropical wetland in the world, Paraguay, while small, has extremely variable environments.
Each region home to amazing animals and plants, such as jaguars, caimans, and toucans. Each is also struggling with various, steadily worsening environmental issues. Much of these problems are due to pollution and deforestation. Paraguay has had one of the fastest deforestation rates in the world for years in a row.
Paraguay's environment is special because of its rich biodiversity and diverse ecosystems. As I mentioned before, Paraguay has 11 distinct ecoregions; some scientists even argue that there are more!
The east of Paraguay is mostly forested, containing part of the Atlantic Forest. The Atlantic Forest is one of the most biodiverse forests on earth. Many of the species in the Atlantic Forest are endemic, meaning they can't be found anywhere else. In the east, Paraguay also shares part of the Pantanal, the largest tropical wetland in the world.
