Occasionally, trainees a.k.a. aspiring pop stars from entertainment companies will perform songs in Hongdae before debuting to gain fans or test their marketability.
The most fun activity this week was when I visited the game cafe in Gangnam with a big group of international students. It was the first time that I had used the subway for transportation because, in California, I would usually drive to get to where I want to go. The subway was an adventurous experience because we missed the train and had to navigate transferring stations without Wi-Fi. I was lucky enough to be lost with two other international students who had been living in Korea a semester before me, so they were more familiar with the subway system. Making it to the destination safely was the highlight of the day!
Things I read this week were street signs in Korean. I am starting to recognize the alphabet and am able to sound out the words when I see them on the street, which is helpful for navigating my way. I also tried to keep up with things happening in the United States by reading news articles. Classes are beginning this week, so I will have to purchase textbooks to complete my class assignments.
At the game cafe, we played this Korean board game where we had to remove dog treats from the box before the dog wakes up. It was fun because we had to be careful not to set off the timer to wake the dog. Another Korean game that I learned how to play was 3-6-9, which is a counting game that can go on for ages and is great for learning how to count in the Sino-Korean* number form.
