The different environments in Senegal make it a special place to live where you can experience different climates and atmospheres throughout the entire country.
Senegal has a very diverse environment depending on where you live. In Thies our environment is hot, dry, and sandy. Thies is inland from the ocean and we get a lot of sand and dust that blows in from the Sahara Desert. In fact less than an hour from where I live you can ride camels in the Desert de Lompoul! If you travel an hour west to Dakar the environment is cooler and it is less dusty. This is because Dakar is right on the ocean. South of Dakar is Ziguinchor which has a more tropical environment. It is very hot and humid with a lot of greenary. So people who live in Senegal can visit so many different environments!
The ocean, rivers, and lakes are the most important part of the environment for people who live in Senegal. The two main types of food consumed in Senegal are fish and rice. People use the water from the lakes and rivers to help grow their rice to sell and feed their families. The bodies of water also help to supply fish for sale or to eat.
