It was super flavorful and comforting. This is a great meal to eat on cold, dark winter day in the Arctic. Would you try fiskesuppe?
I haven't tried making this soup for myself yet because buying fish in the grocery store is super expensive. But, I looked up a recipe and it seems pretty simple. First, you cut your fish into small pieces and put it to the side. Then, you chop all your vegetables into small pieces. The next step is to prepare the soup base. You make a thick broth out of ingredients like butter, starch, cream, lemon juice and fish stock. Then, you cook the vegetables in the broth you just made. The final step is to add the pieces of fish and simmer them until they are just cooked through. I like to eat my fiskesuppe with a side of bread so I can get every last drop!
Fish are one of Norway's most important resources. Norway has a very long coastline, so fishing has always been very accesible and a good way to make a living. Additionally, the harsh conditions in many parts of Norway makes traditional farming more difficult, so historically many people have relied on fish for their primary source of food. It's no surpise that Norwegians eat a lot of fish and use it in many of their meals.
