I enjoy listening to different live radio shows on NTS during my weaving lessons because of the variety of sounds. I believe this is because of the radio’s multicultural nature! While it is mainly broadcasted in London, it attracts listeners worldwide. Interestingly enough, it is founded by a Nigerian by the name of Femi Adeyemi. One genre I listen to on NTS is Afrobeats. Many people here love Afrobeats. During this week, I spent time with my cousin, listening to Afrobeats in the car! Ever since December when I saw one popular Afrobeat artist named Rema, the music has been rubbing off on me!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

My favorite activity this week was calling my friends from home. I know what you’re thinking – that's not an activity you did in Abuja! One thing my time here has taught me is that it is so important to prioritize time to talk to loved ones. Living abroad is difficult if you don’t have a way to ease the homesickness! I get to share photos with them like I do with you all. I also get to learn new perspectives about my experience from those I consider close to me. In a way, we’re all on this journey together.

What did I read this week?:

This week I’ve been reading Necessary Illusions: Thought Control in Democratic Societies by Noam Chomsky. It is about media coverage of diplomatic process in Central America and the Middle East. The book demands a lot of my focus, so I haven’t finished it yet. Unfortunately, it has made me lose my reading streak of finishing one book per week! One of the books I really enjoyed during my time here is Kindred by Octavia Butler.
