How far did I travel this week?:

The furthest I traveled this week was to the Cyprian Ekwensi Center for Arts and Culture, a cultural center in a neighborhood called Area 10. I visit every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for my weaving lessons. The Cyprian Ekwensi Center for Arts and Culture is about twenty minutes south of where I live — Maitama. In Maitama, the stores and restaurants are located in the neighboring area called Wuse II.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

Since living in Nigeria, I’ve been to Lagos twice. Lagos is approximately 440.5 miles, or 709 kilometers (if I use the metric system like they do here), southwest of Abuja. When I visited Lagos in October and November last year, I flew on the airline Ibom Air. The flight was fairly similar to those in the U.S., but I cannot say the same for the driving situation here. Contrary to the United States, many interstate roads endure horrible conditions. The roads are bumpy and difficult to drive on. Negligent drivers pose another risk. Within cities like Abuja and Lagos, accidents happen. Just this week, a lady crashed into my friend’s car right outside of my apartment. Even though my friend was unharmed, this harsh reality is the reason why I had to fly to Lagos. In the end, I’m happy with my choice as I'm not so sure I would want to travel by car for nearly twelve hours!
