What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language spoken here is Hausa. Other common languages include Yoruba (also the name of numerous West African coastal people) and Igbo — and, of course, there's always pigdin!

What type of money is used here?:

This currency in Nigeria is called the Naira, which can exist as coins and bills. There are three coin types, including the 2₦,1₦ and 50 kobo (a monetary subunit of the Naira). Compared to coins, there are eight types of bills including a 1000, 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 bill. Although this seems like a lot of money, 1000 ₦ actually only equals 67 cents! This means that 1500 ₦ roughly equates to 1 U.S. dollar (USD). The exchange rate between the Naira and USD changes, but the Dollar is almost always stronger. In fact, the last time the Naira valued more than the Dollar was in 1985! Similar to the United States, people here typically use banking apps to transfer money and cards to pay for items. The device that processes card payments is known as “POS” (pronounced: P-O-S). This stands for Point of Sale machine. While these portable machines come in handy, network issues can make processing payments challenging at times. This is really frustrating when trying to buy something in a hurry!
