Arabic is the primary language and most people also learn English in school. English is also a common language spoken in the area I live since I live in an expatriate (people originally from countries other than Jordan) neighborhood.
Jordan's currency is the Jordanian dinar. Jordan is mostly a cash-based society, but in Amman credit cards are widely accepted as well.
A typical bottle of water costs about .25 Jordanian dinar (JD). Right now, 1 USD is equal to about 1.41 JD, so one bottle of water is about $0.35 USD.
I try not to eat out much (weekends are an exception) and enjoy cooking myself. This week I made baked artichoke pasta. I was even able to find a difficult ingredient (dill) at the supermarket!
An incredibly popular Egyptian singer, Amr Diab, had a concert in Jordan this week so I heard his music constantly... at work, in taxis and at the gym. One of his popular songs is called Alby Etmannah (in English alby means "my heart," so this is a love song).
