I had my fish grilled, and it was mouth-watering!
The song that has been repeat on my playlist this week is the song "Khona" by Mafikizolo ft Uhuru. My South Africa country coordinator introduced us to the song one day as we were taking a break between lectures. I've been hooked ever since.
The activity that was the most fun for me this week was visiting the V&A Waterfront shopping mall. It is a popular tourist spot in Cape Town. The mall is large and sits right in front of the Atlantic shore. You can view the colossal Table Mountain across the water. The mall has a large white Ferris wheel, which helps me orient myself in the mall whenever I wander too far from the group.
We had many in-class readings this week. One that stands out to me was on the history of racial segregation, called "apartheid" in South Africa, and how the post-apartheid system led to the creation of the healthcare system. There was a long history of H.I.V. infection in South Africa, leading to a struggle to make antiretroviral drugs (the only known medication at the time) free for people diagnosed with H.I.V. Even today, there is a stigma around individuals with HIV, especially within the community level.
I am not much of a sporty person. I like to sit on the sidelines and cheer on my classmates and country coordinators. We had a picnic in Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden, and I watched as my classmates had a fun game of soccer with our country coordinators.
