What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language that is spoken in Cape Town in English. This is because South Africa was colonized by the British in the 1820s. Schools teach the English language based on the British grammatical and spelling systems. 

What type of money is used here?:

The currency in Cape Town is the South African rand. One U.S. dollar is equivalent to about 15 South African rand. 

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

Bottled water in Cape Town costs about R4.25. Cape Town is known for having a severe water crisis, which started in 2015 and peaked a few years later. This was especially the case in the Western Cape, which is where my classmates and I spent most of our time. A South African professor gave us a lecture about what the water crisis was like for those who lived through it. People in higher socio-economic classes tended to use the most water. They did not want people from lower socio-economic classes "intruding" in their neighborhoods to access water through pipes that were built to redirect water to the masses. 

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal I had this week was fish and chips from Fish on the Rocks, which is acclaimed for having some of the most famous fish and chips. The restaurant was a short walk from our first classroom in Hout Bay.
